EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing was created by Dr. Francine Shapiro. EMDR is a unique and integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR enables people to heal from symptoms and emotional distress which are a result of disturbing life experiences.

When a person is traumatized the brain’s information processing system is blocked or thrown off balance by the traumatic event. As a result, the emotional wound is unable to fully process. EMDR therapy assists with removing the blockages by its eight phase protocol treatment utilizing bilateral stimulation (i.e. eye movements, tapping, or auditory) to help the client process the memory and disturbing feelings.

Research has shown that EMDR helps a person no longer relive the disturbing sounds, emotions or images when the event is brought to surface in the mind. The person remembers the event. However, it becomes less upsetting. EMDR can be thought of as a physiologically based therapy that helps a person view the disturbing material in a new and less distressing way.

I have completed the EMDR trainings approved by EMDRIA (EMDR International Association). I am an EMDR Trained Therapist.
